Mr. Johnny Mullins, age 62 of Hanover, AL passed away at his residence on June 21, 2017. Graveside services for Mr. Mullins will be held Tuesday, June 27 at Rockford Cemetery at 11:00 AM with Dr. Jeff Fuller officiating. Visitation will be held from 6-8 at Curtis and Son North chapel on Monday, June 26.
Honorary Pallbearers will be the Deacons at Rockford Baptist Church, M.P. Heath, Joel Glover, Randy Wilson and John Kelley Johnson. Pallbearers will be son John Mullins, nephew Chris Mullins, Harvey Campbell, Johnny Harris, James Baird, Mac Moseley, and David McGalliard.
He was born April 18, 1955 to Jasper and Laura Mullins in Stewartville. He graduated from Lyman Ward Military Academy. After graduation, he went to the Superior School of Auctioneering in Illinois and became an auctioneer. He was the owner of Mullins Grocery in Rockford from 1980-1990. He worked many years as manager of the Elmore County Farmers Exchange and retired with 22 years with the Coosa County Highway Department. He was a faithful member and Deacon of Rockford Baptist Church where he loved people and everyone loved him. He enjoyed cutting and selling hay, farming, raising black angus cattle, and the auction business. He loved to sell anything from cast iron skillets to farm equipment. He was named Alabama’s “Rookie Auctioneer” in 2003 and became Alabama State Grand Auctioneer Champion in 2009. He was honored by the Coosa County Cattlemen’s Association for all his hard work and support of the cattle industry and was also honored by the Alabama Open Horse Association. Johnny loved horses, ran barrels, and showed western pleasure classes for many years. He always owned a horse until he took his last breath. He also enjoyed baseball and coached his son in Little League for many years. He was a catcher in high school and his son, John, was a catcher from Little League through college.
Johnny is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 41 years, Debbie; one son, John (Katie) Mullins of Deatsville, AL; one granddaughter, Claire; one grandson, Warren; mother, Laura Waldrip of Hanover; sister, Teresa (Kenny) Jones of Alex City; two nephews, Mike (Kay) Mullins of North Pole, Alaska and Chris (Melissa) Mullins of Alex City.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jasper Mullins.
Johnny was a wonderful husband, father, son, brother and friend and will be greatly missed. A special thank you to Coosa Valley Home Health and Coosa Valley Hospice for their loving care and wonderful attention that was given to our family during such a difficult time.
