Hugh -- affectionally known as “Buddy” -- was born on August 26, 1935 to Almon W. and Saderia G. Glass in Jemison, Alabama. He is preceded in death by his parents, loving wife of 44 years Jacqueline Wyatt Glass, son James Braxton Glass, and sister Frances Jeanette Spruell. Survivors include his daughters Amelia “Amy” Chambers (Roger), Saderia “Lisa” Berry (Ralph), grandchildren Daniel Chambers (Amber), Emily Graham (Josh), Anna Berry, Audrey Berry, 3 great-grandchildren, nieces, and his best friend and dancing partner Gillian Carden.
Hugh was a man of faith who was devoted to and deeply loved by his wife, children, and friends. He was known among all as a man of humility, compassion, and integrity. Most importantly, he will be remembered for his kind demeanor and gentle spirit. Hugh had a heart for his community: He was a long-time resident of Huntsville, Alabama and could often be found teaching Sunday school, leading a Toastmasters meeting, or helping out at the Boys and Girls Club. He was also a skilled magician and ventriloquist, bringing smiles to all whom he encountered.
Hugh graduated from the University of Alabama at Huntsville and enjoyed a flourishing career as a managerial accountant. He also proudly served in the United States Navy, achieving the rank of Petty Officer 3rd Class.
In his last days, he enjoyed ample time with family, listening to music, soaking up sunshine, and eating plenty of ice cream. He passed peacefully surrounded by his family and loved ones.
The funeral service to honor and remember Hugh Glass will take place on at Valhalla Funeral Home & Memory Gardens (698 Winchester RD NE Huntsville, AL 35811). Friends and family are invited to share in the celebration of a life well lived.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Boys and Girls Club of Northern Alabama, a cause close to Hugh's heart.
“Don’t let your heart be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms; if not, I would have told you. I am going away to prepare a place for you. If I go away and prepare a place for you, I will come again and take you to myself, so that where I am you may be also.” - John 14:1-3
