Dolores Parker, a resident at Sylacauga Health and Rehabilitation Services, passed from this life on Sunday, November 19, 2023 of complications from several chronic health difficulties.
Dolores was born in Sylacauga to F. L. and Gladys (Lambert) Parrett and graduated from Sylacauga High School. She married Charles Parker of Childersburg on July 14, 1957 and they made a home together in Childersburg for almost all of their lives until they moved to Spring Terrace Retirement Community in Sylacauga in July 2021. Dolores is survived by Charles and their two children, Hal and Mandy, their daughter-in- law Jean, their grandchild Andrew, his wife Sandra, four nephews, Neal Walker, Mark Jackson, Larry Lyda, and Chris Lyda, and numerous cousins on the Parrett and Lambert sides of the family.
Dolores was a dedicated home-maker, devoted wife, and caring mother, as well as a dedicated church member at Calvary Baptist Church in Childersburg and First Baptist Church of Sylacauga. She was a person of deep faith and sought opportunities to volunteer in the choir, Sunday School, outreach initiatives, and fellowship organizations. Enthusiastic travelers and campers, Dolores and Charles worked extensively with Campers on Mission, an organization that constructs church buildings in rural areas across the United States. They also traveled many other places, including the Rose Bowl Parade in Pasadena, California, the Smithsonian Museum in Washington, D.C., Carlsbad Caverns in Carlsbad, New Mexico, St. Augustine, Florida, Israel, and many other sites. Their favorite destination was Gatlinburg, Tennessee, where they spent their honeymoon. For ten years or so, Dolores drove school bus nr. 37 in Childersburg for Talladega County Schools. She most enjoyed the company of her many friends and family, telling stories and sharing food.
Dolores was preceded in death by her father and mother and her sister, Glanda Dale Parrett Walker Sherum.
