By the time David was "Shady" our paths had separated  and I enjoyed his company only occasionally. 

My memories of David, and there are many, were of "Pearl".....of hot summer afternoons playing "peg" with broomsticks from the cotton mill in the field in front of his home, of endless hours of ping pong under the shade of the oak at Sycamore pool, of Dave the "all star" second baseman in little league and later with the Sycamore Baptist Church softball team ,  of Sunday afternoons on the tennis courts in Fairmont playing hotly contested doubles with Bob and I teamed against Dave and Ronnie, of joining Dave on his paper route on Sunday evenings after church with a car load of friends. The memories go on and on. The consistent theme is Dave's perpetual smile and love for life.   He was a gift from God bringing joy to those who crossed his path. 

Dave truly loved His Lord and His Lord's People. My prayers go out to his family and friends who are mourning his passing today. I pray that God's love and comfort rest on all as we "grieve not as those who have no hope" but grieve with the hope and expectation of the day when we are reunited in glory.

So sorry to hear this. When I visited my grandmother, Sarah Traylor, every summer Pearl would come play basketball and stickball with me and Sandra Taylor.  I'm glad I have those childhood memories.

David McGrady was a legend, he was a great friend, always ready to smile and laugh. He was a true person that was what he was, all the time. He had a big heart and would give you the shirt off his back even if he didn't have an extra. Legacy is all you leave on this earth and Pearl left one that will live forever.   Jimmy Morgan  

Wow, I can't believe it - David was always so full of life.  We have lots of fun playing baseball together and I remember he went with me to the Alabama Sugar bowl in 1978/9 to watch Alabama beat Arkansas.  It was a great trip and we had a lot of fun.  Still can't believe it is possible. Prayers for the family.


I worked with David for many years and he was a wonderful person. So sad to hear of his death. My sympathies to his family, especially his mom🙏🏻🙏🏻
