Thomas Vincent Sampson, 98, of the Cove Guest Home, formerly of Havelock Street, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2015, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney after a brief illness. Born in Lower L’Ardoise on Sept. 29, 1916, he was the son of the late Edmund and Sophie (Martell) Sampson. Tom was a devout member of Sacred Heart parish for almost 70 years. He was employed by Sydney Steel Corporation as a Heavy Crane Operator in the Open Hearth Dept., retiring in 1978 after 43 years of service. Everyone will remember him as a wonderful husband to Bessie and a very dedicated family man as well as a good neighbour.
He is survived by daughter Anne (John) MacLean, Antigonish; sons, Tom (Carol), Ingonish; Charles (Sally), Sydney Forks; Joseph (Deborah), Sydney; stepbrother Fred Mombourquette, New Glasgow and by 13 grandchildren, including his “very special Scot” and 25 great-grandchildren along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife of 76 years, the former Bessie Briand, four brothers, John, Simon, Cornelius and Albert, three sisters, Mary Sabine Evong, Margaret Evong and Mary Alice Darveau and his daughter Mary Elizabeth Campbell. Visitation for the late Mr. Sampson will be from 2-4 and 7-9 pm on Thursday, Jan. 15 at T.W.Curry Parkview Chapel. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 16, at St. Marguerite Bourgeoys (formerly St. Joseph's Parish), 40 Cabot St. with Rev. Bill Burke officiating.
