83 – Sydney
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our loved one, Theodore Francis Tobin on Sunday, October 14, 2012 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital surrounded by his loved ones.
Born in Sydney, Ted was the 11th of 12 children of the late John and Viola (Peck) Tobin. He attended St. Joseph’s School, moving on to complete high school at Notre Dame in Montreal. He returned to Cape Breton where he met and married the love of his life, Evelyn Saunders. They married in June of 1950 and moved to Halifax where Ted worked for MT&T, moving then to Western Canada after the birth of their first child, working for Shell and Banff Oil until the late sixties. Ted moved his family back home where he worked for Atomic Energy until his retirement.
Ted loved Cape Breton and was a loyal fan of his hockey team ‘The Cape Breton Screaming Eagles’. His passion for golf was like none other and he was a very enthusiastic player. He enjoyed the time it gave him to spend with family and friends and was extremely, but humbly proud of his ‘ Hole In One’. Ted was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and a great friend to many. He will be remembered always for his kindness to all.
Ted was most proud of his family and is survived by his loving wife Evelyn (Saunders); sons Ned (Marian); Larry (Karyn); daughters Nancy (Gerald) and Michele, 6 grandchildren, Jamie MacInnis, Nick Tobin (Kirsten), Amy Tobin, Kelsey O’Brien, Sandy (Tara) Baker and Steven (Jodi) Baker; great grandchildren Connor, Jonathan, Tori, Leah, Sydney and Alex. He is also survived by his sister Theresa Kozera of Sydney and by many nieces and nephews and several in- laws.
He was predeceased by his son Terry and his daughter Cynthia.
Visitation for the late Mr. Tobin will take place at T.W.Curry Parkview Chapel on Wednesday, October 17 from 6-9 pm. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday at 1 pm at Immaculate Heart Church with Fr. Conrad Edwards officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
Many thanks to the staff at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital for their care during Ted’s stay in the hospital and the VON who visited the family home.
