Rita MacLeod, 93 of St. Peter’s Road, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2015, at An Cala Unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Big Pond, she was the daughter of the late John 'The Widow' and Mary (Campbell) MacNeil.
She was a member of St. Theresa’s parish, Sydney and was a 53-year member of the Parish CWL. A devout Catholic, Rita always had a pot of tea on the stove and encouraged all who visited to participate in a game of cards and enjoy some warm biscuits.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Rita is survived by daughters, Mary (Brian) Black, Winnipeg, Man., Anne(Cyril) MacPherson, Josephine (Ron) McCarron, both of Big Pond, Bernadette (Warren) Spracklin, Sydney; sons, Donnie (Linda), John MacLeod, both of Sydney and son-in-law, Kerry MacLellan; 16 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and by numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband of 58 years Donald Angus, her daughter Frances MacLellan, seven sisters, Mary 'Joe' MacDougall, Agnes Keane, Ethel 'Everett' MacDow, Jessie 'John Duncan' MacNeil, and Catherine, Elizabeth and Josephine, Congregation of Little Sisters of the Poor, five brothers, Duncan, Paul, Joe, Danny Angus, and Neil.
Visitation for the late Mrs. MacLeod will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday, Feb. 27 at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 28, 2015 at St. Theresa’s Church with Fr. Jim Oliver and Fr. E. MacDow officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
