Richard Robert McCarthy

It is with broken hearts that we announce that on Sunday, Feb. 24, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother-in-law and friend Richard Robert McCarthy suddenly passed away in Sydney.

Son of the late William and Mary (Parsons) McCarthy. Richard is survived by his wife Theresa (nee Penney), children: Roxanne (Tommy), Sheri (Russell) and Richard (Tammy) grandchildren: His side-kick John Robert (Brandi), Joshua (Brianna), Jeremy, Dylan, Kayla "Bianca", Brittney, Dawson and Amanda as well as his great grandchildren, Caiden, Ayvah, Brianna, Maliah, Lyla and Jaxon. He is also survived by his siblings: Martha Stone, Betty (Gerry) Dwyer, Nora (Joe) MacLean and Willie (Diane) McCarthy along with his nieces, Valerie (Jay), Joanne (Ian), Kathleen "Sapphire", Jenny and Lori (Shaun), nephews Jaxon, Jackie and Ryan and his extended Penney family.

Along with his parents, Richard is also predeceased by his brother-in-law John. Richard loved spending time outdoors. Whether it was hunting or fishing with his best friend Clemmie, spending time with family and friends at their family bungalow in Big Beach (his favourite spot), or going for one of the many long drives with his loving wife Theresa, Richard was always happiest when he was outside.

Richard’s family would like to thank all the staff of the Renal Dialysis Unit and ICU and 4B of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital for the wonderful care shown to Richard, especially Dr. Siva, Dr. Young and Dr. Hewlett.
