Paul Joseph Melanson, 84 of 141 Meadows Road, Sydney Forks, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 26, 2011, at the An Cala Unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital with his loving family by his side.
Born in Gilberts Cove, Digby County, he was a son of the late Roy E. and Hattie (Amero) Melanson and the last surviving member of his immediate family.
He was a member of St. Mary’s parish, East Bay. He was a loving father and devoted husband. He worked for Municipal Ready Mix for 37 years before retiring in 1991. He spent many hours on the upkeep of his property, house and vehicles, for which he received numerous compliments. He played the guitar all his life, entertaining many at get-togethers with his music. His sense of humor, even to the end, was enjoyed by all who knew him.
He leaves to mourn, his son Gerald (Judy), Calgary, AB and daughters Shirley (Sandy) MacNeil, East Bay; Nancy (Reg) Fagan, Foxtrap, NL; 5 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren, sisters-in-law Eleanor Melanson; Adele Doucet and Marie (Gerald) Gaudet and many nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by his sister Marion Fash and his brother Nelson ‘Dick’.
Visitation for Mr. Melanson will take place on Sunday from 7-9 p.m. and Monday 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at T.W.Curry Parkview Chapel. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 11:00 am at St. Mary’s Church, East Bay with Rev. Frank Abbass officiating. Interment in the parish cemetery.
