July 29, 1928 – Sept 8, 2017
We the family of Patrick McGuire regret to announce his peaceful passing at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital on Friday, September 8, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. He was the son of the late James and Elizabeth (Nunn) McGuire. Pat was a well know Sydney businessman who owned and operated McGuire’s Transfer and Storage along with McGuire’s Snow Removal. He grew up on the family farm on Upper Prince Street where they ran Breton Diary and McGuire’s Ice. His heart was always on the farm. Pat spent many hours in the local arenas as player for Constantine School and as an avid fan and lifelong supporter of minor hockey. When the old Sydney Forum was demolished his seats were saved and are hung on the wall in his “ice house”. It was rare for him to miss an event until the last few years when his mobility limited him. Horses were Pat’s other passion. He bought, sold and raced countless harness racers, with great success, and was always in the stands at Provincial exhibitions to watch family and friends show their quarter horses. In his younger years he enjoyed deer hunting at the bungalow in Loch Lomand. Pat is survived by his wife Anna (Morrison) McGuire; children, Jim (Colleen), Glenn (Virginia), Anna Marie (Peter); grandchildren, Patrick, Chad (Angela); great grandchildren, Jax, Sadie and Hank and his companion, Georgie Burke. He was predeceased by his parents; his son, Mark; brothers, Jimmy and Willy; sisters, Elizabeth (Cunningham), Rita (Casagrande) and Marie (MacDonald). The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the doctors and nursing staff that have cared for Pat while at the CBRH and the Northside General. In lieu of flowers, donations to Parkinson Canada Atlantic in Pat’s name would be appreciated. There will be no visitation. A funeral mass will be held 11 a.m. on Monday, September 11 at St. Theresa’s Roman Catholic Church, Sydney, Rev Dennis Lamey officiating.Words of comfort may be sent to Pat’s family by visiting www.twcurry.com
