Nancy was born on July 20th, 1940 to Rufus and Francis (Peters) Foote. Nancy had worked at Crowell’s Department Store in her youth where she soon met and later married her loving husband William (Bill) O’Neil. Nancy and Bill spent their early years residing in Germany, and traveling throughout Europe during their first military posting. Nancy and family then relocated throughout Canada and upon Bill’s retirement the family settled back into life on Cape Breton Island.
Nancy enjoyed evenings out playing Bingo and card games with her friends, her children and grandchildren, and was particularly competitive at cribbage. Nancy loved to knit various items for her family, and her knitted items were also available at local shops for visiting tourists to purchase. She especially enjoyed her excursions out with her son Glen, going to café’s, listening to local music and being surrounded by the company of friends.
Nancy is survived by her children Glen (ES-335), Catherine (Bob), Rick (Mana), Maureen (Shane) and Kevin (Christine), her 10 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband William (Bill) of 49 years, their son William Jr. in infancy, her son-in-law Mark and most recently her only sibling Shirley.
We wish to thank the CBRH and staff for their continued care over the years, the Northside General Hospital staff, and MacGillivray Guest Home for taking care of our dear mother. Despite her short time at the MacGillivray Guest Home, she was truly happy to have a great view of Westmount and to reflect on the home and memories of her youth.
A visitation will take place on Saturday, March 12th from 2pm to 4pm at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel. All provincial covid protocols to be followed throughout.
