May 2, 1923-May 13, 2015
Mary Jane MacDonald (nee Campbell), 92 years of age, passed away peacefully on May 13 at the Cove Guest Home.
Our Mom was one of 12 children born to the late Samuel Thomas and Mary Kate (MacEachern) Campbell. She was predeceased by her brothers: John Norman, Donald, John Willie, Alec Hughie, Dougald, John Dan, Angus and Joe and her sisters Christina Richard and Jessie MacLean. She is survived by her youngest sister, Annabelle MacKenzie (Steve).
Born in Glencoe, Inverness, Mom enjoyed step dancing, chording on the piano with her fiddle playing brothers, and always loved to laugh.
She had various jobs throughout her life....cleaner at Lynch's Bakery, cleaner at Holy Angels High School, worked in the bakery at Miles' IGA, and ended her career as a pastry cook at MacGillivray Guest home. Always a hard worker, she never failed to provide for her family.
She was a member of St. Joseph's Parish and St. Theresa's Parish. She was an avid dart player and was a member of the Irish Club dart league for many years. She had many card games with her sisters in law and many laughs. Did they really play cards?
She spent the last 4 years at her home away from home (Orchard unit at the Cove) where she was loved by all who met her. She was recently predeceased by her roommate Kay who became a wonderful friend to her and part of our family. We can truly never give enough praise to the staff, thank you for loving our Mother! And please know that she loved you too.
Her husband John Dan passed away in 1962, leaving Mom to raise 4 small children on her own. She is survived by her children: Thom, Jackie, Margie (Howie Clough), and Ann Louise and 2 grandchildren: Danielle Sawlor (Scott), and Christopher MacDonald and one great grandson Sam Sawlor.
Visitation for the late Mrs. MacDonald will be from 7-9 pm on Sunday, May 17 at T.W.Curry Parkview Chapel. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 am on Monday at St. Theresa’s Church with Rev. Jim Oliver officiating. Interment in Holy Cross Cemetery, Sydney.
Donations in her memory may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Society or charity of choice. Online condolences may be sent to www.twcurry.com
MY MOTHER, MY FRIEND...you made us who we are and you will never be out of our thoughts. Ma you were truly loved and were both Mother and Father to us! We miss your laugh, your kind demeanour, your beautiful smile, and your biscuits. You warmed a room with your smile!
