Oct 10, 1934 - July 10, 2015
Our hearts are filled with grief as we announce the passing of our beloved mother just eight short months after our father, Edward Grimm. Mom was the former Mary MacLean of Scotchtown and the eldest daughter of Joseph MacLean (Boisdale) and Catherine Campbell (Frenchvale).
She is predeceased by two brothers, Rannie MacLean (Marion Bridge) and Cecil MacLean (Scotchtown) and survived by her sister Christina White (New Victoria).
In 1963, she married Edward Grimm, a young military officer, and they started their lives as a military family frequently moving within Canada but always making the journey home to Cape Breton each summer. Their family grew to include daughters Valerie MacNeill (Brian), Ottawa, Christine (John MacNeil), Truro and son Michael (Charlene), Ottawa.
When the time came to settle back home in Cape Breton, she continued her work with the Toronto Dominion Bank where she proudly balanced her cash to the penny and enjoyed lunches at the Peking with friends. She was an avid gardener and loved beating you at a good game of cards. As Dad always said, she gladly took up retirement, to become a "Professional Grandmother". She reveled in the new additions to the family, busy, boisterous grandsons Logan, Keegan, Kenzie and Cameron. Finally, the tides changed with the birth of her namesake and first granddaughter Maari...but Michael and Charlene hit the jackpot with the arrival of the next generation of 'Grimm Girls', triplets Regan, Emma and Mya. In 2013, Mom and Dad were blessed with the arrival of great-grandson Nathan, son of Keegan (Jenna Camus). Mom was a steady influence on all of us and her devotion to us was always her priority, "We rise again in the faces of our children."
Visitation will take place 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Monday, July 13th at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 14th at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 1452 Kings Road, Sydney River, N.S. Rev. Duaine Devereaux will officiate. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
Special thanks to Drs. Critchley, D'Intino and the medical staff at the Palliative Care Unit and the VON.
