Mary Doyle, age 102, passed away peacefully Monday, February 11, 2013 at MacGillivray Guest Home.
Born in Mabou, Nova Scotia, she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Katherine Anne (Beaton) Doyle. She was the last surviving member of her family.
Mary was a consummate teacher who began her teaching career at the age of 16 in Mabou. She taught in many communities in Cape Breton retiring from her professional career in 1979 at Ashby Elementary School in Sydney. Mary continued to teach as a volunteer with Laubach Each One Teach One into her nineties. Mary was very devoted to her Catholic faith. She was an active member of St. Joseph’s Parish in Sydney for many years and belonged to the Catholic Women’s League. She had also been an active member of the Confederation of University Women.
Besides her parents, Mary was predeceased by her sisters Margaret (Alexander) Beaton, Katherine (John) Rankin, Florence (Dermott) Waldron and her brother James Doyle (Patricia MacLean). Mary will be fondly remembered by her nephews and nieces.
There will be no visitation. A funeral mass will be celebrated in the Chapel of MacGillivray Guest Home on Saturday, February 16, 2013 at 11 am with Father Paul Abbass presiding.
