90 – Grand Mira North
Martin MacLellan, age 90, a lifelong resident of Grand Mira North, passed away Monday, February 6, 2012 at home with his loving family.
Born in Grand Mira North, he was the son of the late Angus A. and Elizabeth (Gillis) MacLellan.
He was a member of St. Margaret’s parish, Grand Mira and a lifetime resident involved in working the family farm. He served overseas during World War II in the 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion and was a member of Royal Canadian Legion Branch 12, Sydney. He was employed by the N.S. Dept. of Highways for 10 years prior to working as a truck driver for LeVattes, retiring in 1977 after 6 years.
He is survived by his bride of 59 years, the former Emily Josephine Donovan, daughters Joan (Hab) Walsh, Grand Mira North; Jane (Michael) McJannet, Orangeville, ON; Charlene (Steve) Pertus, Sydney; sons Joseph (Dorothy), Grand Mira North; Allan (Mike), Sydney; Gerard (Nora), Elmsdale; Vincent (Lynn), at home and daughter-in-law Glenda Hardy. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren Blair (Madeline), Angela (Scott), Martin (Paula), Lisa, David, Cheryl, Reneé, Danielle, Paul, Jeffery, Matthew, 4 great grandchildren Breanna, Emily, Carter, Grant, sisters, Mrs. Annie Morrison, Norfolk, Mass.; Sr. Rita and Sr. Josephine, both of Antigonish; Mrs. Isabel MacGillivary, South Bar and brother Frank (Fran), Sydney.
Martin was predeceased by brothers Andy, Johnny, Vincent, Alexander and Donald and sisters Rose Burke, Jeanette Gillis and Margaret Gillis.
Visitation for the late Mr. MacLellan will take place at T.W.Curry Parkview Chapel on Thursday from 1-4 & 6-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday at 11 am at St. Margaret’s Church, Grand Mira South, with Rev. Tom MacNeil officiating. Interment to follow in the parish cemetery.
