It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Lena MacDonald at MacGillivray Guest Home on April 26, 2021. At 101 years of age, Lena lived an extraordinary life seeing over 100 years of change in the world. Born on Oct. 25, 1919 in Poulamon, NS, to Aime Cleophas “Pepe” and Mary Alexina “Meme” (Fougere) Boudreau. Lena was a very kind hearted, caring and loving individual who put the needs of others ahead of her own. She will be missed for her kindness, sense of humour and was known for her generosity, compassion, fudge, crafts and playing cards with friends and family. She always had a smile for everyone. She enjoyed her midnight snacks in the fridge at MacGillivray.
Being the last survivor of her immediate family, Lena was predeceased by her parents, husband Phil, siblings: Alcid, Evelyn, Delina Landry, Clifford, Simon, Meria Langlois, Tony and Leo.
She is survived by many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews including the Polegatto family whom she previously resided with. Although she was not a mother herself, she was like a mother and a caretaker to many people over her years. She spent many hours on the family farm in Poulamon growing up tending to many animals and plowing the fields with her family. She loved their horse, Timmy, and dog, Tippy. She later moved to Sydney in the 1950’s along with other members of the family.
There will be a private service for the family at TW Curry, Sydney. The service will be livestreamed on T.W. Curry's Facebook page on May 1, 2021 at 11:00 am. Interment will take place in Resurrection Cemetery. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family by visiting www.twcurry.com. In lieu of flowers, donations in Lena’s memory may be made to a charity of your choice.
The family would like to extend a warm heartfelt thank you to all of the staff at MacGillivray Guest Home for taking such wonderful care of Lena during her stay, including people to talk French with Lena, the Palliative Care Team at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Dr. Archibald and T.W. Curry.
