It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Kenneth ‘Kenny' James Doucette. Born February 19, 1945, in North Sydney, Nova Scotia, he was the son of the Late Frank and Mary Jane Doucette. Kenny passed away peacefully at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital on February 21, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.
Growing up, he made so many close friends that he has carried with him throughout his life. His friends are too many to mention but were truly important to him. He made many friends playing bingo and volunteering at the Wallace Bernard Memorial Hockey Tournament and working at various places. He worked at Membertou Public Works and Housing as a Maintenance and Renovations Manager for 25 plus years. . He enjoyed watching hockey especially watching the Toronto Maple Leafs.
His most important job was being a loving husband to his wife Anita, and a loving father to his daughters Annie, Martina, Kayla (Lucas), Maria (Thunder), Liela and Vanessa, all of Membertou and to his sons, Edward James Kabatay, Ajay Googoo, Angelo (Trish ) LaPorte, and Daniel Paul all of Membertou. He was also a loving DADA to his grandchildren: Frederick, Mali’San, Jackson, Brett, Cassia, Carlee, Jordee, and Shanelle and one great granddaughter Jaelyn.
Also left to mourn are Kenny’s siblings; Joan (Peter) Knapp and Frances (Kevin) MacIntyre. His mother in law Madeline Martin, sister in law Marlene, brothers in law Phillip (Late Germaine), Barry (Patsy), and Dean, as well as his godchildren, many nieces and nephews, his bingo buddies and a large extended family.
Aside from his parents, Kenny was predeceased by his father in law Frederick Martin; his in laws Glen (Theresa) Martin and Walter (Alice Bernard) Martin.
Visitation will be held at the family home, 47 Bradley Street, in Membertou on February 27th after 7pm, and a Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Parish in Sydney on Wednesday March 1st at 11am, Fr. Bill Burke officiating. Cremation will follow. After the Mass a salite will be held at the Membertou Trade and Convention Centre, all are welcome to join.
