John was born on December 22, 1940, to the late Frank and Mary (MacIntyre) Quinn of East Bay. John was employed as a heavy truck driver delivering oil for Sullivan Fuels and was a tour bus driver for Transoverland Tours. He also was a manager and driver for Nova Tours.
John loved fishing until he hit his first golf ball and then golf took over. For many years, he played golf every day at the Lakes Golf Course, where he met many friends. He played his last golf game on Oct. 6. He also attended his first NHL game on Oct. 2 with his two sons and two granddaughters. He enjoyed that game and trip immensely. He was an avid Toronto Maple Leafs fan.
John is survived by his wife Hughena (MacDougall), his son Danny (Donna) and granddaughters Victoria and Emily, his son Dennis (Cecilia) and grandson Kyle (Kristin Wilton), his stepdaughter Danette (Michael) MacKenzie, and step-granddaughter Nicole (Justin Statton) MacKenzie. He is also survived by brothers Wayne (Bernadette), Billy (Anne Marie), and Mike, sisters Donna (Pat) Murphy, Sadie (Carl) Sampson, Ann Marie (Harold) Crawley, and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, John was predeceased by his first wife Doreen (Penney), and by a stillborn son and an infant daughter Melinda Rose. He was also predeceased by his brother-in-law Wayne Chaisson and sister-in-law Daveen Quinn.
A visitation will take place from 2-4 and 7-9 pm on Wednesday, Nov. 8 at TW Curry Parkview Chapel, 755 George St., Sydney. Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, Nov. 9 at 1pm also at TW Curry Parkview Chapel with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating.
