It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of John Bernard Britten of Sydney Mines, Nova Scotia. John died on December 29, 2021, at the Northside General Hospital following a lengthy illness. Born December 21, 1958 and raised in Sydney, he graduated from Sydney Academy in 1977. John worked as a Red Seal Cook in Ontario, Alberta and Cape Breton, alongside his wife, the late Cindy (Musgrave) Britten.
John was known for his kindness, generosity and, especially, for his incredible sense of humor. He is survived by his mother, Mary (Campbell) Britten; sisters, Catherine “Kay” Musgrave (Dave) and Louise; brothers, Jim (Deb), Paul (Cindy), Allen (Sharon) and Ron (Fran).
John was dearly loved by his many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews, uncles, aunts, cousins and friends. Cindy’s grandson, Jett, held a special place in his heart.
John was predeceased by his beloved wife, Cynthia “Cindy” (Musgrave) Britten; father, Elmer Britten; and nephew Danny Musgrave.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Shirley Musgrave Stamper; Dr. Saliba and Oncology team; staff of the Cancer Clinic at CB Regional Hospital; Tom MacNeil, Social Worker; Brenda Baxendale, OT; VON; Palliative Care Team; Northside Homemakers; Red Cross; the doctors, nurses and staff at Northside General Hospital; and Fr. William Burke.
