It is with heavy hearts and sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of Joanne Rowe on Sunday, October 22, 2023, in Sydney, Nova Scotia. Born on July 18, 1944, Joanne was the daughter of the late Hughie and Carey (Wierbiski) MacDonald.
Joanne leaves behind her husband, Donald F. Rowe (Don). Their journey began in 1961 when they worked together at Boyce Ins. Adjusters. They married in 1965, and this year, on November 11th, they would have celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary. The memories and moments they shared throughout the years will always hold a special place in Don's heart. Their love story is evident in the family they raised: son Donnie (Karen) Rowe and their children Matthew and Kaileigh, and daughter Jen and her son, Quinn.
Joanne was predeceased by her seven year old brother, Joey in 1944, sister Carole Weatherby in 2004, sister-in-law Catherine and her husband Tony White, and brother-in-law, Kevin Rowe. Her memory is also lovingly embraced by her sisters, Stella (Jack) Hogan and Connie (Rick) Bowers; brothers-in-law Nelson Weatherby, Gareth Rowe and Gerard (Mary) Rowe; and sisters-in-law Noreen Rowe and Donna Rowe. Joanne loved life and always made sure that those around her were enjoying themselves just as much. Her laughter and warmth at gatherings with family and friends transformed everyday moments into happy memories. She will be deeply missed by her nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
She retired as the Chief Clerk of the Department of Lands and Forests in Coxheath, NS. Joanne was an enthusiastic sports fan throughout her life, but her most treasured moments were cheering on the CBU Capers mens and womens basketball teams. To the players, she was more than just a fan; she was their most dedicated supporter as she assumed the role of den mother.
The light of Joanne's life was undoubtedly her grandchildren. Her laughter, care, and unwavering support will forever be etched in their hearts.
