It is with saddened hearts we announce the passing of Jean Renzi on August 8, 2015 at the CBRH Palliative Care Unit, Sydney, NS.
Born in Coniston, Ontario, Jean graduated from Teachers College in Hamilton, Ontario and taught in St. Catharines and Toronto. Later doing substitute teaching in London, Ontario, Niagara Falls and Ottawa. In addition to teaching and children, Jean loved music, literature, travel, and gardening.
Jean is survived by her most devoted husband Joseph, children Joy, Joelle and Joseph III. Also survived by her brother Thomas and wife Betty-Ann, Niagara Falls and their two children, Elana and Michael and grand nephews and nieces, her loving sister-in-law Angela (Renzi) Cummings and husband Bruce, daughter Marla (John Spain) and family in the U.S., brother-in-law Paul (Antonia) and daughters, Pauline, Baddeck, Margaret (Keith Miles), Bras D'Or, and Joanne, Hawaii.
Jean was a long time member and past vice-president of the Halifax Canadian-Ukrainian Association, the Catholic Women’s League, Sacred Heart Church and had attended mass at the Holy Ghost Ukrainian Church, Sydney. Jean and husband Joe were members of the Sydney Italian Cultural Association and the Cape Breton British Car Club.
In honouring Jean’s request there will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under supervision and direction of T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel, Sydney, N.S. A small funeral service will be celebrated at the Holy Ghost Ukrainian Catholic Church, 51 West Street, Sydney, on Wednesday, August 26 at 11 am with Reverend Roman Dusanowskyj officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the CBRH Cancer Clinic and continuing cancer care program. Special heartfelt thanks to friends and relatives and to the dedicated staff of the CBRH Cancer Clinic and Palliative Care Unit as well as the pharmacy staff at Shoppers Drug Mart, Prince Street, Sydney. You are all, truly, guardian angels in your own special way.
