Born on January 13, 1930 to Henry S. and Josephine (Bougeois) Lelandais, he was extremely proud of his St. Pierre background.
He was educated at Constantine School and Sydney Academy followed by St. Francis Xavier University and numerous correspondence courses. Henry was a metalographer at Sydney Steel until his retirement in 1992, after thirty six years of service.
He loved gardening and was proud to show off his various shrubs-azaleas, rhododendrons and his prized yucca, to name just a few. He was also an avid reader and book collector. Books meant so much to him in the past few months. He enjoyed debating the pros and cons of each book and it’s author. Following his retirement he took up woodworking, and became very proficient with his lathe, turning many various sizes and shapes of bowls as well as making many unique items such as his “wooden neckties” and working model trucks.
Along with his parents, Henry was predeceased by his son, Michael, and two sons in infancy, and by his sisters, Etta (William) Halloran, Jeanne (Ernest) Cullen, Tillie, and his twin sister, Matilda.
He is survived by his wife, Anne (McMullin), his daughter, Michelle (Wayne) Flynn, his granddaughters, Kyla (Don) Findlay and Keely (Dan) Messenger and by his great-grandchildren, Declan and Haven Findlay and Ivy Mae Messenger.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Tuesday at T.W.Curry Parkview Chapel from 2 -4 & 7-9 pm. A private internment will take place at a later date.
Memorial donations can be made to the Cancer Patient Care Fund at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Online condolences to www.twcurry.com
