The family of Dr. R. Gordon Simpson, age 91, are sorry to announce his passing in An Cala unit of Cape Breton Regional Hospital on January 26, 2018.
He was the son of the late William and Jean (Orr) Simpson of Bay View, Prince Edward Island.
He is survived by his wife of sixty five years, Betty Lou (Nunn), daughters Barbara (Dr. Jim MacKillop) and their children Ian (Ashley), Craig (Amy) and Laura; Deborah Martin and her children, Brent (Kim), Kirk, Jilliane (Greg) Hobbs; son Lorne (Janet) and their children Christopher and Shawn; daughter-in-law Diane Simpson (late Kenneth) and their children Alexander (Caitlin) and Adam; son Barry (Wendy and her children Max and Jessie) and by great grandchildren Jack and Lilly MacKillop, Sophia and Camden Hobbs. Also surviving are brothers-in-law Merlin (Joan) Nunn and Tony Miller (late Mary Nunn) and many nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by father-in-law Bruce Nunn, mother-in-law Florence Nunn, son Kenneth (2011), sisters Vera and Helen and brother Nelson (late Mabel).
Gordon began his early education in a one room school in Bay View and then on to Prince of Wales in Charlottetown. From there he attended Dalhousie Medical School graduating in 1950. He practiced one year in Glace Bay and three years in Guysborough. He went on to post graduate studies in anesthesiology at the Royal Victoria and Montreal General Hospitals. He came to Sydney in 1956 to practice anesthesiology.
He loved gardening, travelling, cooking, walking and spending time with family in Baddeck and Prince Edward Island.
Service will be held on Saturday February 3, 2018 at 2 pm at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel, 755 George Street, Sydney NS, with a reception to follow. Interment at a later date.
Family flowers only, donations may be made to Cape Breton Cancer Patient Care Fund at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
