After graduating from Sydney Academy, he worked at St. Rita Hospital in the Receiving and Distribution Department. Most of his working years were spent in sales. During his time in Halifax, Eric worked for Northeast Equipment Ltd. He later returned to Sydney to assist his aging parents and a favorite aunt, Margaret Mulligan. He worked for a while at Saf-Way Auto Parts, and later, he drove for Preferred Taxi, formerly Dynasty, where he enjoyed the friendship of his co-workers and many clients until his retirement.
Eric had an outgoing personality and kept abreast of current events and loved to engage in conversation around a variety of topics.
He is survived by his brother John McCarthy, of Dartmouth; sister-in-law, Janet; nieces, Adrienne and Elizabeth with whom he had a very special bond; and grandnephew, Dalton. A graveside service at Resurrection Cemetery in Sydney Forks Friday July 28 at 1:30.
