Sydney, NS
It is with saddened hearts that we announce the passing of our mother, nan and great
grandmother, at the age of 98, on July 09, 2016 at the Glace Bay Hospital, 4 North.
Eliza was born in Sydney, N.S. to the late William and Leontine (Leon) Gaudet on September
26th, 1917.
Eliza left school early to help contribute for her family by babysitting and housekeeping. She then met the love of her life, Willie, married, and had a family of four children. She loved to cook and bake for family, her beloved neighbors and friends, and many other drop-ins. Eliza’s tea biscuits were the best! Ever the social butterfly, Eliza was an avid attendee of the local tea and card socials, frequent traveler with the Bangor Bus shopping tours, a member of the Club 55 and the Sydney Pensioners Bowling leagues, and she even tried her hand at a dart league. What she loved most though was music, playing the piano, singing with the Memory Lane Singers, the St Theresas’ Church Choir, the Inspirational Singers and her beloved High Hopes group, taking a spin on the floor at the dances, and for all, always the well-coordinated put together little lady. Eliza was the life of the party!
Eliza was a lifetime member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 12, and held an honorary
membership with Club 55, and was also was a member of the Steelworkers and Sydney
Pensioners’ Club, the Nova Scotia Federation of Senior Citizens and Pensioners, and Spanish
River Srs. Club.
Eliza is preceded in death by her parents, and also her sisters Annie Bethune, Marguerite
Maisonneuve, Georgette Adams, Marie-Jeanne Gaudet, and brother Edmond Gaudet. She was
also predeceased by her first husband, William K Maxwell; sons William H Maxwell and
Murray Maxwell, and by her second husband Ralph Pittman.
Eliza is survived by her sisters Alfreda (Bidda) Confiant, Sydney , Sister Lillian Gaudet,
Antigonish, and sister-in-law Philomena Gaudet, Dartmouth; daughter Raylene
(Andrew) Seymour, Winnipeg, MB, son Lorne (Lois) Maxwell, Regina, SK, and daughters-in-law Carol Maxwell, Dartmouth, and Sandra Maxwell, Westmount, and former daughter-in –law Wanda Maxwell, Regina, SK. Eliza (G.G.) is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
The family of Eliza wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the awesome care givers at both of
her second homes, 3B at the CBRH and 4 North at the GBH.
