Di, daughter of the late Helena Mae Lawrence Alleyne and Denis McDonald Alleyne was born in Whitney Pier, Sydney, a community she was so proud to call Home, on March 25, 1930.
A life well lived and loved is the legacy Aunt Di will leave behind for her countless nieces and nephews who she guided over the past 94 years of her life, especially Tamara, Roslyn, Sharon, Heather, Raylene, Anna, Helena, Brian, Diana, Donald, Roy, Nancy and Christopher who was like her son. “It Takes a Village to Raise a Child” and Aunt Di, was this center for many of her nieces, nephews, and youth in the community, she approached every situation with an open mind, heart, and arms. Her boundless advice, unwavering support will be something that will live in each of us. We will forever hear you cheering on her favourite sports team the Toronto Blue Jays or your excitement playing TV bingo with your sister Rose and friend/caregiver Darlene Cambridge.
Leaving behind to mourn Di, is her sister Rose Holland and Rose’s son Michael. Her brother in law Daniel MacDonald, sister in law Lucy Worrell and Niece Lillian (Todd) Marsman. She will also be dearly missed by her special great nephew Izaiah Alleyne who she loved like a grandson.
Di was predeceased by her brothers Danny Lawerence and Joe Worrell, and sisters, Julia Alleyne, Shirley Alleyne, Elfreda MacDonald, and Gloria Alleyne, brother in law Dave Holland and by her best friends Dolly Desmond and Rachel Campbell.
Our Family would like to thank the nursing staff in 4B and the doctors of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital for all the excellent care. A special thanks to the countless number of Homecare workers who throughout the years provided comfort.
Visitation will take place on Monday July 8th 2-4 and 7-9 at TW Curry Parkview Chapel, Sydney NS. A funeral mass will be held at St. Philips African Orthodox Church in Whitney Pier, at 1:30 pm on Tuesday, July 9 with Deacon Whitfield Best and Deacon Rhonda Crawford officiating. Interment will take place at Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, Grand Lake Road, Sydney, immediately following the service. Everyone is welcomed to join family and friends back at the Menelik Hall, 88 Laurier Street for a reception. Donations in memory of Diana may be made to St. Philip’s African Orthodox Church.
