It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Dobbit Gabriel of Eskasoni First Nation. He died peacefully in his home on May 12, 2021. Born to Frederick Gabriel and Miranda (Lewis) Gabriel on April 24, 1967. He is survived by his brothers, Chris, Eric and Bryant, all of Eskasoni. His godparents Gerald Johnson (Eskasoni) and Shirley Virden (Minnesota). He is also survived by his daughters Miranda Destiny (Jordan) Sylliboy and Charinda Gabriel. His grandchildren, Lyla Marshall, Lenae Marshall and his pride and joy Hunter Sylliboy. His grandchildren meant the world to him and they will greatly miss their Granddad. His best friends Johnny Sylliboy and Evelyn Sylliboy will miss his presence at their weekend gatherings as he was the life of the party. Dobbit was well loved by many of his friends and he was well known for his humorous ways, always joking around.
Dobbit worked for Crane Cove Seafoods for 20 years alongside Captain Gerard Toney aboard the sea vessel ‘Rita Joe.’ He will be greatly missed by his crew members Nonie Levi, Allan Jeddore, Louis Marshall, Francis Stevens & Rick Gould.
Due to current Covid-19 Restrictions, there will be no visitation or wake held. The funeral mass will be Live streamed VIA ETV and Eskasoni First Nation Facebook page starting at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 20, 2021. However, there will be a parade following Dobbit starting at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday at the Crane Cove Seafoods parking lot.
