It is with saddened hearts that we, the family of Daniel (Danny) Earl Lahey, announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother on September 7, 2020 at The Cove Guest Home in Sydney. Danny was born on September 23rd, 1936 in Main-A-Dieu and was the son of the late Daniel and Mary (Molly MacDougall) Lahey; he is also predeceased by his brothers Eddie, Danny, and Ron. First and foremost Danny greatest joy and love was his family. He was a man of humor and principle who always had time for everyone. His larger than life spirit touched many lives both professionally and personally. He was a master mason and was very proud to have worked on the Fortress of Louisburg. Danny had a successful masonry company (DJ Lahey) for many years until he decided he wanted to teach. He obtained his degrees and taught masonry at the Cape Breton Vocational School. He was a talented musician who was well known in the Cape Breton musical community and brought happiness through his music at many events; dances, church choir, retirement homes, Cape Breton hospital socials and as the President of the Cape Breton Musicians Union. Danny was an avid athlete, especially hockey, and took time to coach the sports he loved to play. Danny is survived by his loving and dedicated wife of 57 years Sheila and devoted children Rosalie (Bruce Stolz), Joseph (Andrea Moore), Mary and Daniel, grandson Ariel Tan and sisters Sr. Rosalie Lahey , Barbara Zotter (Werner) and, nephews Werner, Ron and Earl Zotter. We will all miss him dearly. The family would like to thank Dr. Paul Murphy, The Cove (Skylight) staff and all friends and family who visited Danny while he was home and in the Cove to help keep his spirits high and support the family. Cremation has taken place and a funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 am on Friday September 18, 2020 at Our Lady of Fatima with Fr. Patrick O'Neill presiding. Memories and condolences may be forwarded to the family by visiting www.twcurry.com. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Immaculate Conception Cemetery Fund; Main a Dieu.
