Born in Sydney, he was son of the late Bernard Patrick and Isabel (MacNeil) Quinn. Raised (on the family property/farm) in Piper’s Cove, Bryan was the much beloved youngest of the family. Studious, thoughtful, and kind – he was always looking forward to the visits home of his older siblings. His love of practical jokes on those siblings though, soon became apparent. And his skill in such antics grew to a fine art over the years, as many of his colleagues and friends would whole-heartedly agree.
Bryan completed is medical training at Dalhousie University in Halifax, followed by a number of years of military service as Medical Officer onboard the supply ship HMCS Protecteur. Bryan enjoyed his time in the Canadian Navy immensely, sharing stories of camaraderie, unique challenges and opportunities to explore the world for many years after his service. During this time Bryan decided to return to medical school to pursue a specialization in Radiology, training at both Dalhousie University and the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. While Bryan was able to practice in both Canada and the United States, his love of family and Cape Breton brought him home to Sydney. He found his work immensely rewarding and he was always focused on providing the highest quality of support to his colleagues and their patients. All his family know how passionate he was about medicine.
When not working, Bryan enjoyed continuing his studies in Roman History, finding just the right recording of his favourite operas and symphonies, and fine tuning the telescope he built from scratch to get the perfect picture of whatever astrological event was happening at the time - a project that started soon after he traveled to high altitudes in Peru in order to catch a good glimpse of a comet passing close to earth.
At home, we will miss Bryan’s humble presence, his love of all food filled with sugar or coated with salt, and his kind faith-filled words of guidance and support.
He is survived by two sisters, Mary E. (Steve) Horyl, Piper’s Cove and Diane Ward, Sarnia, Ont.
