80-Howie Centre
Bernard Curry, 80, a lifelong resident of Howie Centre, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 30, 2010 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, surrounded by family.
Born in New Victoria, he was the son of the late Joseph Neil and Flora Ann (MacKinnon) Curry.
Bernie was foremost a family man who, with his wife Margaret, raised a large family of 8 sons and a daughter. Together they founded and operated B. Curry & Sons Construction Ltd. They developed, over many years, Floral Heights Subdivision. During his retirement years, ‘Poppy’ thoroughly enjoyed his family, especially the time spent with his grand and great grandchildren.
He is survived by his daughter Ann Marie, at home; sons; Bob (Sheila); Ron (Trish); Tom (Cheryl); Bruce (Leah Jane); Neil (Ruby) and Allen (Liz Ann), all of Howie Centre; Joe (Regina), Sydney River; Brian (Amanda), Northside East Bay; sister Catherine (Al) Zahn, Calgary; brother John (Theresa), Edmonton; 25 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren; sister-in-law Isabel Curry, Kingston; brothers-in-law, Mike Farrell, Sydney Forks; Joe Farrell, Ontario; sisters-in-law Mary Blake, Ontario; Rita Briand, Ontario; Effie (Bob) Chipman, Sally (Charles) Sampson, both of Sydney Forks and by numerous nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by his wife the former Margaret Farrell in 2000, brothers Tommy and Duncan and brothers-in-law Angus Farrell, Danny Farrell and Jim Farrell and sisters-n-law Theresa MacNeil and Annie MacIsaac.
Visitation for Bernard Curry will take place at T.W.Curry Parkview Chapel on Tuesday from 7-9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Church, East Bay on Thursday, June 3 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Frank Abbass officiating. Interment in the parish cemetery, East Bay.
