Barbara Jane Denny

With heavy hearts, we regret to announce the death our mother, sister, aunt and friend: Barbara Jane (Paul) Denny of Eskasoni, NS on March 25, 2021, surrounded by her loving family at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.

Barbara was born on January 2, 1952 in Sydney, NS to the late Nancy (Gould) Paul of Whycocomagh, NS and William (Sulian) Paul of Barra Head, NS.

She graduated from the Nova Scotia Teachers’ College in 1979 and spent her entire teaching career inspiring her colleagues and the young minds of Eskasoni until early 2020. In her 40+ years of being an Educator, Barbara made a positive impact on the lives of many people in the community and to those who came into her life.

Barbara enjoyed being with her family, especially her children and grandchildren. She loved going for drives, travelling in the summer, and her girl’s nights with the ladies in the family. She made her pilgrimages to Sainte-Anne-de Beaupre´ and to the Mniku in Potlotek. She always looked forward to spending her time at the Mniku with family and friends, and Good St. Anne.

Barbara is survived by her sister, Monica Paul, Eskasoni; her children: Chrisma Denny (Oliver), Eskasoni; Michael R. (Koran), Eskasoni; Sulian (Trudy), Eskasoni; and Matthew Rivera, Holbrook, MA. Her grandchildren Auriel, Oliver, Jack, Christopher, and Averie all of Eskasoni; Cassidy and Alanna; Holbrook, MA: Aidan and Spencer of Paqtnkek, NS: and Julie and Jaina, of Eskasoni. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, god children, and especially by her loving niece Wanda Julian and Grand Niece God Daughter Audianna Julian and her other son, Cyril. She is also survived by her sons, the Stoney Bear Singers, Sister in-laws: Georgina Doucette, Jessie Denny, Ruby Poulin and Euphemia (Bea) Miller.

She was predeceased by her loving husband, Roy ‘Jake’ Denny; her siblings Cyril Paul, Pauline Poulette, Gladys Googoo, Caroline Oakley, Annie Mae Paul, and Joseph ‘Vinny’ Paul. In infancy; Stephen Joseph, Helen, Joseph Vincent, Josephine, Joseph Henry and William Francis.

Visitation for Barbara Denny will begin at 6pm on Sunday, March 28, 2021 at the Gabriel Centre, in Eskasoni. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30am on Tuesday, March 30, 2021 at the Holy Family Parish Church in Eskasoni, with Fr. Antolin Asor officiating.
