We are heartbroken to announce that our beloved brother, uncle, friend Archie ‘Bear’ MacDonald passed away on July 10, 2022 after a battle with cancer. He displayed such strength & courage with a smile and would not let this disease win!
Archie was born in Sydney on July 22, 1953, the son of Joseph and Cecelia (former Doucette, nee Christmas) MacDonald. Archie attended the Residential School in Shubenacadie. He started his employment working in the hard rock mine out west. Upon his return home, he worked for DEVCO at the Prince Mine. He was a long time employee of Membertou First Nation.
He is survived by his sisters Nora MacDonald-Plourde, Membertou, Marinda MacDonald, Truro, and Shirley (Wilfred) Ward, Eel Ground, NB; and also sister-in-law Janice MacDonald, Membertou. Archie will be missed by his best friend Chief Terry Paul and his godchildren Jeannie Marshall, Chelcie Johnson & Alfred Kabatay. He was predeceased by his brothers Noel Doucette and Gordon, Douglas, Albert and Mervyn MacDonald. His sister-in-law Jean Doucette and brother-in-law Rheal Plourde.
The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the staff of the Membertou Wellness Home and Hospice Cape Breton for the care, kindness, love and respect towards Archie.
The remains will rest at 77 Muin Awti on Tuesday, July 19 after 7:00 p.m. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday, July 21, 11:00 a.m. at St. Ann’s Church, Membertou. This will be followed by a community feast and salite at the Membertou Trade Centre.
