Ann Powers passed away peacefully at Melville Lodge Nursing Home, Halifax on Sunday, February 19, 2012.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Christina (MacNeil) MacNeil. She was a member of St. John The Baptist Parish, Armdale. She is survived by her son Keith David, Halifax; brother Malcolm and sister-in-law Sandra MacNeil, Porter’s Lake; sister-in-law Sheila Corbiell, Niagara Falls.
She was predeceased by her husband Keith Bernard Powers, brothers Patrick, Daniel, Thomas, Daniel Francis (in infancy); sisters Mary, Tena, Theresa and sister Margaret in infancy.
Ann was employed at the Halifax Dockyards during the Second War years where she met her husband who was in the Royal Canadian Navy. She also worked at a ship chandler at the current Historic Properties, Halifax. She was also an employee at the Toronto Dominion Bank in Toronto from 1961-1968. Ann was known to be an astute individual on whom one could rely for prudent counsel. She enjoyed reading, gardening, genealogy and spending summer/falls at her cottage at Pipers Cove, Cape Breton, where she had a long family history and spent many summers in her youth. She appreciated the people of Christmas Island and the significance of St. Barra parish as the first Catholic Church established in the area.
Funeral mass will be celebrated at a later date to be announced. Internment will be in the parish cemetery, Christmas Island.
