57, Ingonish Beach
Colleen passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday December 6th 2016 at Buchanan Memorial Hospital in Neil’s Harbour. Colleen was known for her undefeatable strength and courage and she was a true inspiration to all who knew her.
Born in Neil’s Harbour Colleen was the daughter of the late Anthony Paul and Julia Ann (Dixon) Gwynn of South Harbour.
She will be loved always and forever missed by her husband Cecil Dunphy of 38 wonderful years, son Ryan Dunphy (Shelley), Lantz and daughter Kyla Dunphy (Michael Williams), Ingonish. She will be especially missed by her special grandchildren Devin and Keigan Dunphy and Ocean Alexandra Williams.
For 38 years Colleen worked in many areas of the food and beverage industry in Ingonish and for over a decade was employed by Cape Breton Resorts as General Manager for both Glenghorm Beach Resort and Ingonish by the Sea properties. She was a dedicated and skilled business woman as Colleen and husband Cecil also own and operate a family business, The Bean Barn Cafe and Deli. An active member in her community she was involved with many community organizations and was the first woman to join the Cabot Trail Lion’s Club.
Colleen was predeceased by sister Margaret Williams and brother Clifford Gwynn.
She is survived by sisters Shirley MacEachern, Baddeck; Rose Rambeau, Smelt Brook; Myrtle (Vince) Galati; Ontario, Jacqueline Fraser; Middle River, brother Bernard (Giselle) Gwynn; South Harbour as well as many nieces and nephews and close friends whom she considered to be family.
Visitation will be held on Friday December 9th 7pm - 9pm Fillmore and Whitman Funeral Home in Ingonish. Funeral Mass will take place 11am Saturday December 10th, St. Peter’s Parish Church, Ingonish Beach, Father Lazerus officiating.
