It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother on July 16, 2021 at the Northside Guest Home with her family by her side. Born in Sydney Mines on June 1, 1941, she was the youngest daughter of the late Veronica Peddle and her stepfather James Peddle.
In mom’s younger years she worked on the domestic staff of the Harbourview Hospital, a job that she truly loved. In Feb. 1963 mom met this handsome gentleman on the way home from work and he asked her for her number! There were other ways for him to get her number so he asked his sister to get the pretty red head’s phone number at the hospital and the rest is history. It was the start of a 58 year love story. My dad was one of the smartest men I know because he knew exactly how to answer all of mom’s questions, “Yes Dear.”
They raised 3 girls who they were immensely proud of and were true role models to what true love is and how you should treat others. Mom cared so selflessly for so many people. She always was so friendly and welcoming to all.
Dad and mom enjoyed their life and family and spent many many nights on the dance floor and in the kitchen dancing and creating strong family bonds. Her greatest joys were her grandchildren, whom she loved dearly. Each one held a very special place in her heart. Lastly but not least, her great grandchildren who lovingly called her Gigi. She showed pictures of these babes to everyone.
In March of 2020 she and dad moved into the Northside Guest Home. They didn’t know it at first but she would take over as “Chief of Operations.” She was the chief of everywhere she went and would tell exactly how she would do things. Mom was a fiery Red Head who could be stubborn but was so fiercely caring and loving to everyone she met. Left to mourn are her husband of 58 years George Ferguson, her three daughters Nancy (Brian) O'toole, Karen (Bill) Taylor and Denise Newell, her grandchildren Shawn, Ryan, Lauren and Ashley (Chris Nunn) and her step grandchildren Micheal and Alisha O'toole, her three great grandchildren Olivia, Jameson and Theodore Nunn and step grandchild Brooklynn O'toole. Also left are her two sisters Melena (Allen Rae) and Jean (Eugene) Ramsey.
Mom was predeceased by her mother and step father Veronica and James Peddle as well as her brother George King and step grandchild Kyle O'toole.
A funeral service will take place at 10:30am on Wednesday, July 21 at the John J Nugent Firemen's Centre in Sydney Mines with Rev. Nick Phillips officiating. Interment will follow in Brookside Cemetery. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family by visiting www.fillmoreandwhitman.com. If desired, donations in Audrey’s memory may be made to the IWK or a children’s charity of your choice.
Mom if only love could have saved you, you would have been with us forever. I hope you shine your beautiful soul in heaven and put a smile on everyone’s face. “We all love you more than you’ll ever know.”
