Susan L. Souza

Susan Lee (Couitt) Souza, “Sue,” age 74, of Swansea, passed away on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, at Charlton Memorial Hospital after a courageous and hard-fought battle with lung cancer. Born in Fall River, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Irene (Bishop) Couitt and a longtime resident of Swansea.

Sue was a woman of incredible strength, resilience, and warmth. She faced life’s challenges with unwavering courage and never lost her kindness or sense of humor. A graduate of Warren High School, she attended Lincoln Technical Institute before working as an Assistant Manager at Family Dollar in Fall River for many years. She was known for her strong work ethic, her compassion for others, and her ability to brighten any room with her infectious laughter.

She found joy in life’s simple pleasures—playing bingo, visiting the casino, and most of all, spending time with her family. Sue had a deep love for her daughter, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who brought endless happiness into her life. She also adored her many nieces and nephews, who will always remember her as a loving and supportive presence.

Sue is survived by her beloved daughter, Tiffany Coderre, and her husband Joab of Pawtucket, RI; her sister Cheryl Mullenhour and her husband Donald of Fall River; her brothers, Charles Couitt and his wife Karen of Oceanside, CA, Stephen Couitt and his wife Marcy of Berkley, and Richard Couitt and his wife Susan of Swansea. She was a devoted grandmother to five grandchildren—Adrianna Souza, Shawn Crawford, Christian Lafreniere, Kelsey Henderson, and Karissa Henderson—and a proud great-grandmother to Simon and Aries. She was also the mother of the late Joseph Souza III.

Her Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at 11:00 AM at St. Dominic’s Church, 1277 G.A.R. Highway, Swansea. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial will be private.

Sue’s memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. She was truly one of a kind, and her kindness, strength, and love will never be forgotten.
