Ruth M. Hamel, 89, of Swansea, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on December 12, 2022. She was the loving wife of Edward R. Hamel (Swansea PD, Ret.) Born in Fall River, she was a daughter of the late John W. Marsland and Edith (Bury) Marsland.
Ruth was known for her kindness, warmth, and loving heart. She connected with so many in the community employed as the Courtesy Booth Girl at Fernandes Market and as a Bookkeeper for multiple local Friendly’s Restaurant until her retirement. She was an Honorary Member of the Little Theatre of Fall River acting as an usher for countless shows and spreading compassion as the Sunshine Supervisor. Ruth’s greatest joy, however was spending time with her family and caring for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her happiest moments were spent at family dinners, birthday parties, and hosting Thanksgiving.
In addition to her husband of 70 years, she leaves her loving daughters: Deborah J. Sadler and her husband George of Rehoboth and Julie M. Feeney and her husband Martin of North Attleboro. Cherished grandmother of Jessalyn R. Correa and her husband Steven of Rehoboth, Alayne D. Chappell and her husband Austin of Rehoboth, Liam M. Feeney of North Attleboro, Lylah R. Feeney of North Attleboro, and great-grandmother of Daniel G. Correa, Isabel S. Correa, and Julian T. Chappell, all of Rehoboth. She was the sister of the late Joan Costa.
Her Funeral Service will be held Saturday, December 17, 2022 at 9:30 A.M. in the Waring-Sullivan Home at Birchcrest, 189 Gardners Neck Road, Swansea. Visiting Hours will be held at the Funeral Home on Friday, December 16, 2022 from the hours of 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery, Fall River. Gifts in her memory to the Little Theatre of Fall River, Inc., P.O. Box 1282, Fall River, MA 02722 will be appreciated.
