Ruth E. (Bradshaw) Connors, “Ruthie,” age 94, of Somerset, passed away Thursday, October 13, 2022 at Clifton Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. She was the wife of the late Leonard C. Connors, to whom she was married to for over 50 years.
Born in Fall River, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of the late William and Mary Eva (LaBounty) Bradshaw. She was raised and spent her youth in Fall River then moved to Charlotte, North Carolina for several years and started her family. Moving back “home” to Massachusetts she lived in Swansea for decades, where she completed her family. In 2005, she moved to Clifton Assisted Living where she was one of their longest residents.
A graduate of B.M.C. Durfee High School, Class of 1946, she attended Sargent College and graduated from Boston University in 1950. She worked as a Physical Education Teacher for the Swansea School Department and was a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society at Our Lady of Fatima Church. After she retired, Ruth and Len spent lots of time traveling. They especially loved spending time in Aruba.
A swimming instructor for many years, she imparted the love of the water to all her children. She enjoyed playing tennis and bowling. She liked to garden and spend time in her well-manicured yard. She also enjoyed shopping, completing word searches, painting and participating in many of the activities/outings that Clifton offered. She loved the attention of her family especially her grandchildren and great- grandchildren.
She is survived by four children, Christine Ferreira and her husband Anthony of Rehoboth, Leonard C. Connors Jr. and his wife Emily of Swansea, Michael Connors and his wife Terri of Warren, RI and Kathleen Swanson and her husband Robert of Exeter RI, ten grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was the grandmother of the late Karen Ferreira Amis and sister of the late Marion Powers, Dorothy Bourgeau and Constance Holmes.
Her Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 16, 2022, from 3:00 to 6:00PM in the Waring-Sullivan Home at Birchcrest, 189 Gardners Neck Road, Swansea. Relatives and friends are invited. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her honor may be made in loving memory of her late granddaughter Karen Ferreira Amis to the Jimmy Fund at Dana Farber Cancer Institute, 10 Brookline Place, West 6th Floor, Brookline, MA 02445. Burial will be private.
