Mary A. Fitzgerald Root

Born in Fall River, a daughter of the late John F. and Agnes (Toomey) Fitzgerald, she resided in Fall River during her youth, , then moved to Somerset over 60 years ago. She was a graduate of Sacred Hearts Academy, Class of 1946 and a member of its Alumni Reunion Committee.

A waitress all of her life, she worked at Magoni’s Restaurant in Somerset for over 30 years, retiring in 2005 and had worked at the former Stonebridge Inn in Tiverton for 23 years prior to that. Mrs. Root was a very active member of St. Patrick’s Church where she taught Catechism and was both a Girl and Cub Scout Leader. She was also an avid Red Sox and New England Patriots Fan.

Surviving: 3 sons: Wayne F. Root of Kissimmee, FL, Kenneth P. Root and his wife Vivian of Spring Hill, FL and David P. Root and his wife Bonnie of Somerset, 2 daughters: Patricia Root Shaker and her husband Jeffrey Shaker of Somerset and Kimberly Root of Swansea, 9 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was sister of the late Johanna Webster and Cpt. John F. Fitzgerald and grandmother of the late Tracy Root.

Her funeral will be held Tuesday, November 29, 2011 at 11AM in St. Patrick’s Church, 306 South St. Somerset. Visiting hours Monday from 4 to 7PM in the WARING-SULLIVAN HOME OF MEMORIAL TRIBUTE AT BIRCHCREST, 189 Gardners Neck Rd. Swansea. Burial is Private.
