Mary Theresa Read

Born in Fall River, a daughter of the late Michael H. and Mathilda (Morrissette) Sullivan, she was a longtime resident of Fall River before moving to West Warwick.

A graduate of the former Scared Hearts Academy, class of 1944 she attended the F.G. Allen Business School in Fall River. Mrs. Read worked at the Sears Department Store for twenty years and later at the former Old Stone Bank before her retirement in 1984.

A communicant of St. Joseph’s Church, she was a member of their Women’s Guild and choir. As a beautiful vocalist she sang at many weddings. She enjoyed knitting, reading, needlepoint and completing crossword puzzles and was an avid golf enthusiast.

She is survived by three sons, William J. Read Jr. and his wife Janet of North Dighton, David P. Read and his wife Donna Lynn of Tiverton, Gerald A. Read and his wife Helena of Riverside; one daughter, Susan Marie Audet and her husband Richard of West Warwick; seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was the grandmother of the late Nicole Marie Audet and sister of the late Leo Sullivan and Eileen Rezendes.

Her Funeral will be held on Wednesday, August 30, 2017 at 8:45AM from the Waring-Sullivan Home at Birchcrest, 189 Gardners Neck Rd., Swansea, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00AM in St. Joseph’s Church, 1335 North Main St., Fall River. Visiting hours Tuesday from 5:00 to 8:00PM.
