Rev. Lynn Grace (McClentic) MacLagan, age 79, of Somerset, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Friday, February 13, 2015. She was the wife of Charles D. MacLagan to whom she had been married for 57 years.
Born in Pawtucket, RI the daughter of the late Herbert and Laura (Cartwright) McClentic, she was a graduate of Central High School in Pawtucket, received her Bachelor’s Degree from Baker University in Kansas and earned her Masters of Divinity from Boston University.
Rev. MacLagan, was one of the first female ministers to be ordained and ministered for over 30 years before retiring in 2011. She served the Great Barrington Methodist Church, United Methodist Church in Newport RI, United Methodist Parish and South United Methodist Churches in Middleborough MA, Washington Street Baptist Church in Lynn, Hornbine Baptist Church in Rehoboth and served as Chaplain at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro.
She was a member of the United Methodist Women, Church Women United, American Baptist Women’s Ministries and involved in many church choirs over the years. She was also a member of the Somerset Baptist Church and Somerset Historical Society. She was an avid reader and loved her pets. She enjoyed going to the Providence Performing Arts Center, traveling to Maine, Ohio, Texas, Canada and twice to the Holy Lands. She held Bible study for over 20 years.
In addition to her husband of 57 years, she is survived by five children, Wes MacLagan and his wife Carol of Rehoboth, Mark MacLagan and his wife Barbara of Fall River, Scott MacLagan of Dresden, ME, Kirk MacLagan and his wife Donna of Leeds, ME and Laura Griffin and her husband Charlie of Derry, NH; a brother Roger McClentic and his wife Linda of Sun City, AZ; a cousin Barbara Osborne and her husband Roger of Providence; her caregiver and family friend Linsey Hightower of Somerset; 24 grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Her Service of Thanksgiving and Tribute will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2015 at 3PM in the WARING-SULLIVAN HOME OF MEMORIAL TRIBUTE AT BIRCHCREST 189 Gardners neck Rd., Swansea. Visiting hours will also be Saturday from 1 to 3PM prior to her service. Burial will be private.
