Born in East Bernard, TX a son of Kyle A. and Edna (Kimble) Thomas; he was raised in Houston, TX. He settled with his wife and became a longtime resident of Swansea, MA. He is affectionately known as “Butch” to his Texas family and friends.
He was a graduate of George Washington Carver High School in Houston. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Electronic Engineering from Texas Southern University in Houston, TX. An Electrical Engineer, his career spanned 30 years with the majority spent at Raytheon and then General Dynamics/Electric Boat, retiring in 2006.
Throughout his life, Kyle was a very religious man. He was a music lover with an extensive collection of vinyl and CD’s, he favored Jazz, Motown, Blues and Hip Hop. Kyle was a big fan of watching sports, especially basketball and football. He played a mean game of Dominoes over the years. He enjoyed food, taking pictures wherever he went, traveling cross-country with his family and cruises with Carolyn. Kyle volunteered with his son’s Boy Scouts Troop 303 in Swansea where they participated in many events together, and was a volunteer usher at Trinity Rep in Providence with his wife. He was a Volunteer Fire Fighter for the Swansea Fire Department for 15 years.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Kellie Thomas of Tampa, FL; one son, Kevin Thomas and his wife Jenn of Acushnet; two sisters, Bertha Brownlow and Janice Thomas; one brother, Gerald Thomas; a granddaughter, Lexi; many cousins, nieces, nephews and a wide host of extended family and friends. He was the brother of the late Ennis Earl Thomas.
His Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2020 at 11:00 am in the Waring-Sullivan Home at Birchcrest with a visitation prior from 9:00 – 11:00 am. Due to current occupancy restrictions, please be mindful that guests may have to wait outside while others pay their respects. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his honor may be made to American Parkinson Disease Association Rhode Island Chapter, www.APDAparkinson.org/ri
