Joan A. Gormley

Born in Providence, a daughter of the late Anable and Mary (Rezendes) Ferriera, she was a lifelong area resident.

A graduate of East Providence High School, class of 1960, she received her L.P.N. license from Diman Regional. She worked as a L.P.N. at both Country Gardens and Crestwood Nursing Home for many years before retiring in 2002.

An avid gardener, she loved all types of flowers, bird watching and her three cats, Teddy, Willie, George and her dog Snoopy. Her best times spent were with her family especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom she adored.

She was the loving mother of Debbie Simon and her husband Yann of Cumberland, RI, Kevin Pellegrino and his wife Bonnie and Jill Brilhante and her husband Robert all of Swansea, loving sister of Shirley Donahue of Topsham, ME, the loving Gramma of Alan Simon and his wife Elizabeth , Nicholas and Tyler Brilhante and the loving Great-Gramma of Kyle, Colin, and Avery. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held on Friday, July 14, 2017 at 9:00AM from the Waring-Sullivan Home at Birchcrest, 189 Gardners Neck Rd., Swansea, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00AM in St. Louis de France Church, 56 Buffington St., Swansea. Relatives and friend invited. Visiting hours Thursday from 5:00 to 8:00PM. Contributions in her honor may be made to the Swansea Animal Rescue League, 68 Stevens Rd., Swansea, MA 02777. Burial will be private.
