Edward James Devlin, age 81, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 26, 2016. He is survived by his beloved wife of sixty years, Marilyn J. Devlin of Swansea, Massachusetts, son James Devlin, daughter Milissa Paige, daughter-in-law Anne Cardin, grandchildren Teresa Devlin and her husband Benjamin Kochan, Michael Devlin, Christian Paige, and Andrew Paige, step-grandchildren, Rebecca Smith, Jennifer Smith, and Melissa Daneau, great-grandson Logan Devlin, step-great-grandchildren, Corey, Cameron, Ben, and Amanda Siatkowski, niece and nephews Rebecca, John, and Michael Devlin, and many cousins. Ed is predeceased by his brother John Richard Devlin of Colombia, Maryland.
Born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Ed was a well-known child soprano on the North Shore and attended Lynn English High School. As an adult, Ed performed professionally in a quartet called The Timbres in the swing era. He earned a B.S. from M.I.T. and was the first to receive an M.B.A. from East Tennessee State University. Some of his notable accomplishments are serving as Plant Manager of Tennessee Eastman in the early 1960s, inventing the Slush Mug in the late 1960s and then becoming President of Glacierware in Connecticut, and founding and managing the Greater Boston Antique and Collectible Toy Show along with his wife Marilyn for over 25 years. Ed was the first Director of Fisher Junior College’s Cape Cod campus in the mid-1970s and later was a professor at Roger Williams University until his retirement in the late 1990s. A devout Catholic and Lay Franciscan, Ed sang for the Mass at St. Francis Xavier Church in Hyannis, Massachusetts while living on the Cape in the 1970s. Ed was also a member of the Hyannis Elks Lodge #1549.
His Funeral will be held on Tuesday, March 1, 2016 at 10:00AM from the Waring-Sullivan Home of Memorial Tribute at Birchcrest, 189 Gardners Neck Rd., Swansea, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00AM in St. Dominic’s Church, 1277 G.A.R. Highway, Swansea. Visiting hours Monday from 4:00 to 6:00PM. Contributions in his honor may be made to Country Gardens Activities Fund, 2045 G.A.R. Highway Swansea, MA 02777. Burial in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Fall River.
