Edward “Eddie” Carreiro, age 95, of Swansea, passed away Saturday, November 19, 2022 at his residence surrounded by his family. He was the loving husband of Mary Joe (Couto) Carreiro to whom he has been married for the past 55 years.
Born in Sao Miguel, Acores, Portugal, a son of the late Jacinto and Maria (Da Silva) Carreiro, he was educated in Portugal and immigrated to the United States in 1950. He lived in Fall River prior to moving to Swansea over fifty years ago where he enjoyed working on his land.
He worked as a Mason in the Union, Local 7 as a Bricklayer for many years. He was a member St. Dominic’s Church and of Ateneu Luso Americano Club.
Proud of his Portuguese heritage and passionate about the old country he was a farmer at heart. He loved to work in his garden, raise livestock and maintain fruit trees and grape vines. He enjoyed making Portuguese table wine annually.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Stephen Carreiro and his wife Jennifer of Seekonk, Edward Carreiro and his wife Nancy of Fall River; one brother Jacinto Carreiro of Canada; four grandchildren, Madison, Jordan, Drew and Samantha Carreiro and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Leonel Medeiros, Gilberto Carreiro, Manuel Carreiro and Maria (Carreiro) Silva.
His Funeral will be held on Monday, November 28, 2022 at 9:00AM from the Waring-Sullivan Home at Birchcrest, 189 Gardners Neck Rd., Swansea, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00AM in St. Dominic’s Church, 1277 G.A.R Highway, Swansea. Relatives and friends invited. Visiting hours Sunday from 3:00 to 6:00PM. Contributions in his honor may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Entombment in Notre Dame Cemetery Mausoleum, Fall River.
