Alexander C. “Alec” Vezina, age 77, passed away peacefully Monday, January 1, 2024 at his home, comforted by his family. He was the loving husband of Suzanne M. (St. George) Vezina with whom he shared 53 years of marriage.
Born in Fall River, the son of the late Alexander J. and Celine A. (Larivee) Vezina, he was a longtime resident of Swansea.
Alec spent most of his career in the textile industry, starting in the stockroom as a young man and progressing to the chief executive level. He worked for Anderson Little for 30 years, including 13 years in North Carolina before returning to the home office in Fall River. He later held executive roles at Domain Furniture, Fabric Place, and Ikat Interiors before serving as Owner and CEO of Window Dressing Designs until retirement.
Retirement didn’t slow Alec down. Always on the move, and almost always with family by his side, he was a true outdoorsman, boating and fishing out of the Swansea Marina. He was an active member of the Tiverton Rod and Gun Club, serving on the Board of Directors and as Range Master and a Gun Safety Instructor. His sharp mind, helpful nature, and ability to fix almost anything kept him busy, including volunteering at the Bristol Elks Club and obtaining his EMT license at the age of 72.
Alec held many titles in his life – from lifeguard to business executive to captain – but his favorite role by far was being Dad and Pépère. He loved nothing more than spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was always there for them, whether he was cheering them on at sporting events, offering them sage life advice, or trading quips over a good drink. He will be fondly remembered for this devotion to his family, as well as for his quick wit and sense of humor.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Aimee L. Williamson and her husband Robert of North Attleboro; two sons, Michael A. Vezina and his wife Kathryn of North Attleboro and Thomas R. Vezina and his wife Kim Lu of Irvine, CA; seven grandchildren, Colton Williamson and his wife Emily, Helena Williamson, and Addison, Cameron, Griffin, Ryan and Lila Vezina; one sister, Connie Lawn and her husband Brian, and many nieces and nephews.
Alec has left behind many meaningful and happy memories for those who knew and loved him. His friends and family will continue to honor his legacy by always being ready with a clever retort, by lending a hand to those in need, and by living their lives to the fullest.
His visitation will be held Saturday, January 13, 2024 from 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM at the Waring-Sullivan Home at Birchcrest, 189 Gardners Neck Rd., Swansea. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, we encourage you to make a contribution in his honor to the Spina Bifida Association of Greater New England, by check at P.O.
