August 6, 1942-May 3, 2020
Born to Clifford and Muriel Davies, Tom was raised on the family farm and orchard in Lavington, BC. He had many stories and fond memories of growing up, whether he was helping out with orchard chores, cooling off in the irrigation ditches or fishing and hiking with his childhood companions.
He was close to both his parents and spent much time out in the bush with Clif but was just as happy to help Muriel memorize her lines for an upcoming play. Tom was always a voracious reader and loved history.
Tom joined the RCMP in 1962 and then continued on to UBC where he received his law degree in 1970. He articled in Dawson Creek, BC and then practiced law in Fort St John and Maple Ridge BC. Later opening an office in Surrey, he helped many people for over 40 years. Even with a demanding career, Tom made time for family camping holidays and two epic Bowron Lake canoe trips. He also served two terms as a Bencher for the Law Society.
Busier than ever in retirement, Tom found great joy working with his son in Creston BC, at Beltane Nursery. He loved early mornings with many cups of coffee, potting up the roses, pruning fruit trees, and picking cherries. At the end of a busy day, he would settle down by the fire with his book and yes, another cup of coffee! Anything that needed doing, Tom was always generous with his time and available to lend a helping hand.
Tom found much pleasure investigating and recording his Welsh and Newfoundland heritage and even taught himself the Welsh language. Traveling to Wales, Ireland, England, and Europe were the highlights of his last few years.
He was proud of all his children; Rowena(Frank), Gwynneth(Brad), Evan(Wendy), Megan(Dave) and his grandchildren; Danaea, Jordan, Ryan, Joel, Brynn, Siobhan, Hannah, Herleve and Heulwen. He was delighted to be a great-grandfather to Brixton and Adelia.
Tom, loved dearly by his family, will be missed by all including many nieces and nephews but especially by Linda, his wife and best friend of so many years. Tom is predeceased by his parents, his sister Carolyn Anderson and survived by his brother Ted Davies of Lavington, BC and his Aunty Myra Guenard(94!) of Nanaimo, BC.
A Celebration of Life will be held when we can finally hug one another again!
