MAGEL, Susan HeatherIt is with great sadness and love that we announce the passing of Susan Heather Magel (nee Lewicki). She was born to Irene and Mish Lewicki (both deceased) on January 3, 1953 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Many of her lifelong friendships began in elementary school, and many more began at Garden City Collegiate, where she graduated in 1971. She earned a BA from the University of Manitoba in 1975, and went on to study dental hygiene, which led to a long career in Winnipeg, Calgary, and finally Vancouver, which was her home for the last 26 years. People gravitated toward her empathy, kindness, and humour, which allowed her to cultivate long-lasting friendships throughout every chapter of her life. Her passions for shopping, travel, reading, and golf were the basis for many of these friendships, but it was her natural charisma and talent for entertaining which leaves the most lasting impression. The time she spent with family and friends will be her legacy. The admirable strength and courage she displayed in her four-year battle with cancer defined her character. Her positivity and determination will serve as an inspiration to everyone who stood by her side. Susan will forever be loved and remembered by Glen, her high school sweetheart, best friend, and husband of 34 years. She will be loved and missed by her sister, Melrene Fitzgibbon (Keith); nephews, Matthew and Mitchell; brother-in-law, Brian Magel (Sue); nieces, Charissa and Nicole; sister-in-law, Brenda Hofbauer (deceased) (Andy); nephew, Trevor and niece, Lauren; and many cousins, friends, and of course her beloved Cookie. The family extends their deepest gratitude to the medical staff at Fraser Valley Cancer Clinic and Peace Arch Emergency Department for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Canadian Cancer Society. Please join the family in a Celebration of Susan's Life at Victory Memorial Park Funeral Centre, 14831 28 Avenue, Surrey, BC at 1 p.m. on Monday, September 22, followed by a gathering at Morgan Creek Golf and Country Club.
