With sadness, we share the sudden passing of Paul Tanaka on April 29th at the age of 86.
Born in Vancouver to Michiyo and Isao Tanaka on March 3rd, 1937, Paul was the eldest of 10 children. Paul grew up in Greenwood, where the family had been interned when he was five years old. Paul got his first job on the CPR at the age of 14, and worked at the sawmill and as a faller with his father until moving to the coast to forge a successful career in the forest industry. Paul eventually established his own management consulting company in the mid-1980s. He raised his family in the house he built in Boundary Bay, and then retired with Arlene to South Surrey. Paul enjoyed music, curling and golf with friends.
Paul is survived by his wife of 50 years, Arlene, dog, Bernie, children, Andrea (Sarah) and Michael (Yayoi), grandchildren, Molly, Kate, Hiroki and Akito, and his eight siblings and their families, Joe, Mary, Cathy, Laura, Damien, Clare, Dorothy and Butch. He was predeceased by his parents, his uncle, Tosh, and his brother, Peter.
We thank Dr. Peter Skepasts and Dr. Horst Hollinger for their decades of care.
