He was born in Glasgow, Scotland on January 7th, 1926 and left home at the age of 17 to begin his lifelong career on the sea. He sailed the world’s oceans initially as an engineer travelling primarily between Britain and New Zealand, stopping at multiple ports in between. In his mid thirties he joined Lloyds Register of Shipping in London, England as a Marine Surveyor - a long career that took him to several more countries before retiring in Vancouver.
He was a kind and gentle man with a great sense of humour and wit even into his late nineties. He particularly loved telling stories of his many adventures at sea. He was an avid Glasgow Rangers fan and loved watching a good cricket match.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Elizabeth (Betty), his children Annette Doll, Susan Grimm and David MacLean, his granddaughters Vanessa Malka and Alyssa Newton, and his great grandchildren Stav and Lia Malka.
Rest in peace, Dad, and know that you were loved by all who met you.
